Dembele’s injured knee need surgery, according to Barcelona.
Dembele Ousmane’s knee injury sustained while on duty with France at Euro 2020 likely necessitate surgery.
The Barcelona winger was injured after coming on as a late substitution for Les Bleus in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Hungary, when he only lasted 30 minutes before being replaced by Thomas Lemar.
Following scans, France announced on Monday that Dembele will be unable to continue playing in the competition.
Further testing on the issue were conducted by his club, which revealed a dislocation of the biceps tendon in his right knee. Barca confirmed on Tuesday that the player will require surgical treatment.
While no timeline for his recuperation has been given, sources in the Spanish press suggest he could be out for three to four months.
Dembele’s career has been marred by injury setbacks since his €105 million move to Barcelona from Borussia Dortmund four years ago.
In four seasons at Camp Nou, the 24-year-old has only made 54 LaLiga starts, and he only played 90 minutes in the league five times last season.
Barcelona have increased their attacking options for the 2021-22 season with the free acquisitions of Sergio Aguero and Memphis Depay.
