In a renewed communal unrest in Benue and Ebonyi, ten people were slain.
In the boundary villages of Ado Local Government Area in Benue State and Ohaukwu Local Government Area in Ebonyi State, eleven people have been killed in a renewed communal disturbance between locals of Ezza and Effium.
The age-old crisis reappeared on Friday, according to Ikeja Online, when the two rival neighborhoods clashed again, killing at least ten people and badly injuring scores more.
James Oche, the Chairman of the Ado Local Government Area, acknowledged to journalists in Makurdi that he had asked both parties to sue for peace.
He bemoaned the fact that, despite his administration’s efforts to restore calm in the region, the antagonism had revived.
While appealing to the feuding villagers, the chairman informed that Ado LGA Police and the newly created Community Volunteer Guards had successfully retrieved three of the five victims purportedly kidnapped by suspected armed kidnappers.
“The newly created Community Volunteer Guards in Ado Local Government and the Operation Puff Adder Police Unit successfully challenged a bunch of kidnappers and obtained the release of three of the five victims abducted,” Oche stated.
